Maps that are Consistent with YOUR design

With the power of Flash 8, you can customize the Yahoo! Maps on your site to actually blend with the surrounding design of the site or application. Forget about a rectangular maps and default colors of the map tiles. Use ActionScript, or the IDE to add runtime filters to the map tiles themselves.
To illustrate this, I’ve made two examples, a parchment pirate version of Maps (Aaaarrrr!), and a green-screen radar version of Maps. To create these effects, I’m using a variety of filters, blend modes and color transformations on the map tiles.

I can also add custom overlays and markers such as Doppler weather or airplane positions for the radar map, or X’s drawn by a quill pen to mark the booty in my pirate map.
One of the things I would really like to do actually with the pirate map is to make it into a hot-cold game, where you wander around the country looking for your buried treasure based on hints (cold/warm/hot or geographical trivia). While I really like the visual design of the Yahoo! Maps, the application look of the maps really isn’t going to suit a game.
Regardless of what you want to do, the Yahoo! Maps API is a fantastic way to create very powerful maps for your own site that also allows you as much creative freedom as it does technical freedom.

Nice effect, but the zoom effect of the spyglass is reversed. Extending the tube increases the focal length, which increases magnification.
November 9th, 2005 at 1:18 am
Thanks for you info
November 9th, 2005 at 1:22 am
yeah, the spyglass movement is inverted, but I really didn’t like the other direction (I wanted to have the zoomed out map and the expanded spyglass as the default view). You are the first to point it out though, so good eye!
If I were really pressed to rationalize it I would say that it is an indicator of the range that you could see with the spyglass. When fully extended you could miraculously see from the gulf coast to to Tennessee and when collapsed you can only see over a whole town.

The bottled water issue is not going away. I am from the small town of McCloud in far northern california. Nestle, one of the largest multi-nationals on the planet is attempting to hijack our community water supply to enhance their own bottom line.
The bottled water industry has done a phenomenal marketing job. They have convinced the gullible masses that it is better to pay exorbiant rates for a public resource that is available to the masses at a fraction of the cost (both environmental and in dollars). This discussion focuses on Fiji brand. The much larger issue is the bottled water industry itself. Are we, as a society, going to let a life-sustaining, public resource become commodified by a handful of greedy corporations? Are we going to consume absurd amounts of energy and oil to produce a toxic (PET) by-product that clogs our landfills (the vast majority of it is not recycled). Or are we, as a society, going to marginalize bottled water the same way that we marginalized tobacco, asbestos, lead paint and DDT.
The choice is ours. Boycott bottled water.

Its old hat. Dave is not keen on something, Dave reckons he got a bad deal ,or Dave thinks afterwards; ‘Hey man, your a tycoon so act like one and get your screw you book out,’ The stumbling block is the 33% split and Daves now got one, maybe two better ideas, so your out. The impasse breaker is Dave might need you again, Dave might get you to surrender the 33% cut, and Dave gets to keep your Apple Pie. In life always look for the undisclosed hidden motive. Daves Dave and Leopards have spots.
