White Out

First I have to say I have an unhealthy love of office supplies. I’m like the dad in the famous commercial (but for different reasons).

Admitting that, let’s turn our attention to the Yahoo! office supply cabinets. It’s like Staples lite. Today I needed something to overcome the annoying blue blinking that just about every Bluetooth device feels compelled to have. As seen in the picture above, I keep my Belkin Bluetooth adapter plugged into the USB hub in my keyboard (easier to take with me when I want) and the blinking in my peripheral vision was going to drive me a bit buggy. Channeling Click & Clack and MacGyver I headed to supply cabinet in search of a substitute for the black tape remedy. While there was no suitable tape, there was White Out. At first I thought “Score!,” but after a moment I had to wonder, “Why the heck do we have so much White Out??” In three years, I have not seen a typewriter here. This cabinet is just half the supply for this floor! Well, long story short, you can see in my picture that the whiteout did the trick. Now I just need to carry the bottle with me and start dabbing it on people’s cell phones and PDA’s. :D

This also got me thinking about my last fun moment in supply cabinet hijinks (yes, I am really this boring). We have pencils. Real, honest-to-God, #2 wood pencils. We even have those cap erasers (seen below) that I haven’t used since elementary school. After a lot of searching, guess what we don’t have? Yup, no way to sharpen the pencils. :D Luckily I discovered that one of my many desk toys has a disturbing pencil sharpener lodged in his head, so I could at least do my sketches. ;)

I am starting to think that there is a neo-luddite hiding amongst the office management staff, either that or someone with a good sense of humor. Either way, I approve!

As an aside for any aspiring FLash Lite developers, get a Bluetooth adapter. It is so much easier than fiddling with USB or any of the other ways of getting your flash file to your phone. I like my Belkin aside from the blinking, but you should be able to find it for a much cheaper price than what is listed at Belkin.

Pencils!
