About Justin Everett-Church

Justin Everett-Church

Hi, My name is Justin Everett-Church, and I am very happy to have you visiting my site. I hope you will become an active participant within the blog. If you like what I say or think I’m nuts, I still want to hear it!

I am Sr. Product Manager for Flash Player at Adobe. For someone that has worked with Flash for the last ten years, getting to help shape the future of Flash on the web is very exciting. I love working with all of the teams within the company, and the customers outside that use Flash in such different ways to make amazing content and tools.

For the previous four years before Adobe, I was at Yahoo! working on IMVironments for Yahoo! Messenger. This spread into other Flash-based technologies in Messenger and other teams, eventually leading to my becoming an Engineering Manager and then to managing the Flash Platform team at Yahoo!. Before the big Y!, I worked for a few years as Interactive Director at Enluminent, which became eStudio, and eventually went out of business and was re-formed as Blitz Digital Studio. We did some amazing work there which was featured on Shockwave.com/AtomFilms.com. My emphasis at eStudio was developing the advergaming capabilities for the studio. By the time I left, we had done over 20 games for Warner Brothers, the US Army, NASCAR, and many other clients.

During this time, I have co-authored four books on Flash Game Development: Flash 5 Dynamic Content Studio, Flash 5 ActionScript Studio, Flash Games Studio, and most recently Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Game Programming. I also taught Flash at local community college for several years, focusing on ActionScript and the technical elements of Flash five, six and seven.

Beyond the professional part of my life, I enjoy the geek life in the San Francisco Bay Area (Fremont). I live in a Funky Live/Work loft with my partner Ray and our two obnoxious cats. Both Ray and I are transplants from the east coast and really still consider Washington DC to be “home.” I don’t get back as often as I like, but I head back periodically to visit my mom who lives a few hours outside DC in Virginia. DC is where I spent most of my college years (except for my freshman year in Rochester, NY). I attended American University for undergrad, studying Foreign Policy, Spanish, and Linguistics. After undergrad I was accepted into the linguistics doctoral program at the University of Maryland (just outside DC). While I am still passionately interested in the structural aspects of language, my practical side drove me to web design (and a paycheck) two years into the program. While I wonder what would have happened had I become Dr. Everett-Church, I love the way my life has turned out, so no complaints here!

If you made it this far, you really know more about me that you probably really needed to, but hey, you clicked on the link, not me!
