Our cat Tiki passed away yesterday. Ray posted on his blog a very good description of what happened.
Tiki, of all my pets, has had the biggest personality. He was a dignified cat constantly foiled by his own klutziness. There was a meow (a very Siamese cat meow) for any and every occasion. I’ve never seen an animal so able to accurately get his message across. He had us trained to his whims in a matter of weeks.
He loved to sneak up behind ray and I and poke us in the side with his paw. The higher up on us the better. It proved to the world just how long a cat he was, a fact that he was always willing to demonstrate. He seemed particularly proud when he got my attention by getting into a chair backed up to mine and reaching up about three or four feet to whack me on the top of my head.
You couldn’t help but laugh when you would see him barely hanging onto furniture with three legs while reaching out as far as he could to tap ray when he would be just out of range. The scourge of sweaters just in range, Tiki’s paw was know as the “meathook.” I’m really going to miss the look of guilty innocence he would give when Ray would turn around and catch him in the act.
The death of a pet is difficult in a way that only pet owners know. The happiness and inevitable humor of having a pet more than make up for the pain.
Ugh, I am so sorry. I cannot imagine what would happen if my wife and I lost any of our pets. Our thoughts are with your family.
My condolences, homey! Hope you all are ok. Cute kitty!
dang man. sorry to hear that. I’ve got a cat, dog and bird at home and I love them soooo much (despite my dog tearing a door off its hinges 2 nights ago).
I’ve lost pets before so I know how your feeling. My condolences.
Hello Ray – I just got off of IM with Justin, We were both blubbering over the loss of Tiki. My boy Max is now 19 years old and he is having problems with the thyroid. I have him on pills the meds make him lethargic. It’s breaking my heart. I know he will be leaving me soon and my world will be forever changed and certainly “less than”
I had the pleasure of meeting Tiki once, What a wonderful person he was! My heart goes out to both you and Justin and especially Felix who must be missing his brother terribly.

Tiki and Felix were perfect gentleman on our visit. Perhaps trying to make good “grandcat” impressions. Not like the trailer park hooligans that live with us. We will miss him. I’m sure Felix will need some special attention from you and Ray.
Oh no! I remember when you guys got those cats and they were a blast every time I saw them. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry about your loss, he was such a beautiful cat
my best friend was also named tiki.. just watched a movie, 8 below.. reminded me of him. Even though he didn’t save my life literally.. i know he did many times just by being there.. named my cat by saying ‘ next scooby doo monster ‘ is my cat’s name.. china tiki monster. black and white short hair.. probably one of the coolest cats i’ve ever known.. unfortunately he passed on when i wasnt’t there .. drank some anti-freeze and died shortly after from liver failure. My family thought it best not to tell me.. but i wish i was there for him like he was for me. It hurts more than i thought to lose a friend.. more so because i feel like i left him, but its the good memories that make me glad i knew him. Not being able to say goodbye.. isnt cool. Don’t try to save anybody’s feelings by ‘not telling them’..
Im sorry to hear about your cat, Tiki. Even though I dont know you or your cats, it seems to me that Tiki had a wonderful life, full of people (and cats) that loved him. His life was too short, but filled with much pleasure.
